AASP Newsletter - August 2017

Editor's Note - If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It

Sebastian Brueckner, PhD, CC-AASP, Saarbruecken Olympic Training Center, Germany

"If you can dream it, you can do it. Always remember that this whole thing was started by a mouse."
~Walt Disney

Even though AASP didn’t get started by a mouse, the above quote seemed fitting for this month’s AASP Newsletter Editor’s Note. After all, the 2017 Annual Conference in Orlando, FL, – right across the street from Disney Springs – is coming up quickly! Registration is open, and the schedule offers three days fully packed with workshops, lectures, panels, symposia and exciting keynotes. Kudos to Traci Statler and the Conference Planning Committee for their great work. In the last AASP Newsletter, AASP President Angus Mugford provided a great overview of the work that has been done and the initiatives that have been moved forward during the last few months. The new online Career Center and the new Certification Program are but two initiatives worth mentioning here again. As outlined in AASP’s Strategic Plan, advancing the organization and the field, especially with regard to job creation and professionalization, is a major goal on which many current developments focus. Let’s be inspired, individually and as an organization, by Walt Disney: “If you can dream it, you can do it!” Hopefully, this Disney spirit will permeate the Annual Conference in October in Orlando, and also AASP’s future development and its role in advancing the field of applied sport and exercise psychology.

Finally, a few words regarding the Newsletter, specifically. As some of you might have noticed, there hasn’t been a March and July Newsletter. The Newsletter Committee had highlighted the change to a monthly format of the AASP Newsletter and we received very positive feedback. However, after half a year of very diligent work by everyone involved, we realized that the workload associated with this change was simply unmanageable. Thus, at the April Executive Board Meeting, it was decided to move to a format of six newsletters per year, to be published every other month. Of course, we will still try to bring you the same high-quality articles and content – and I want to take the opportunity to thank all contributors as well as the members of the Newsletter Committee for their great work and effort. If you want to contribute to the ASSP newsletter, please email me at s.brueckner@olympiastuetzpunkt.org. I want to close with another quote from Walt Disney: “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.”

See you in Orlando!
