Volunteers Needed for AASP Graduate Program Accreditation Council

Applications due by February 10, 2022

AASP is seeking volunteers who are committed to the advancement of graduate training standards in applied sport psychology to serve on the inaugural Graduate Program Accreditation Council (GPAC).

Based on the work of the organization’s pilot recognition program, GPAC members will work closely with our external professional consultant to guide them through the development of our accreditation process. The expectations for the GPAC will include tasks such as the creation of bylaws, policies and procedures for the accreditation council, and approval of the final version of the Graduate Program Standards.

The seven (7) person GPAC (plus Ex-Officio member) will include 2 educators in applied Sport Psychology, 2 certified Mental Performance Consultants (CMPC), 1 non-USA based AASP member, 1 higher education administrator, and 1 member of the public. Following the initial staggered term, all subsequent council terms will be three (3) years in duration.

Educators in Applied Sport Psychology
2-year appointment (one position available)
3-year appointment (one position available)
Minimum Requirements to be considered:

  1. Current member of AASP
  2. Hold an active AASP CMPC certification
  3. Experience with higher education accreditation (programmatic or regional)

Preferred Requirements to be considered:

  1. Service on an accreditation board of a profession other than sport psychology
  2. Active involvement in programmatic accreditation in a profession other than sport psychology

Mental Performance Consultants (practitioner, non-educator)
2-year appointment (one position available)
3-year appointment (one position available)
Minimum Requirements to be considered:

  1. Current member of AASP
  2. Hold an active AASP CMPC certification

Preferred Requirements to be considered:

  1. Supervisor/Mentor of trainees pursuing CMPC credential
  2. Employer of current AASP CMPC credential holders
  3. Experience with accreditation in higher education or other similar experience

Non-USA Based Member
2-year appointment (1 position available)
Minimum Requirements to be considered:

  1. Must be a current member of AASP
  2. Must be a current International Member

Preferred Requirements to be considered:

  1. Hold an active AASP CMPC certification
  2. Be an employed faculty member in an applied sport psychology program
  3. Experience with accreditation in higher education or other similar experience

Administrator
3-year appointment (1 position available)
Minimum Requirements to be considered:

  1. Must be a current member of AASP
  2. Experience with leadership role within graduate program in sport psychology
  3. Experience with higher education accreditation (programmatic or regional)

Preferred Requirements to be considered:

  1. Department Chair or Dean of a college which includes a sport psychology program
  2. Hold an active AASP CMPC certification

Public Member
2-year appointment (1 position available)
Minimum Requirements to be considered:

  1. Cannot be an AASP member or hold a current CMPC credential
  2. This person is to represent the public, so he/she should not be formally associated with a particular applied sport psychology educational program.

Members of the GPAC will be appointed by the AASP Executive Board.
