Minimum Qualifications: Â The minimum education requirement for appointment to this position is a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in the psychosocial/behavioral sciences (Sport Psychology) of Kinesiology or related areas such as psychology or coaching education. Preferred Qualifications: Evidence of or potential for successful teaching in Sport Psychology/Sociology, Coaching Psychology, and Coaching Education. Experience or ability to teach sport psychology/sociology classes and experience or interest in teaching strength and conditioning coaching. Evidence of a current scholarly agenda. Experience in or potential for applying scholarly interests to practical settings. Participation in relevant professional organizations. Ability to teach a writing-proficiency course. Certified consultant status by the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (CC-AASP) or candidates with potential to achieve CC-AASP (or international equivalent) is preferred. Ability to communicate and work effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Experience or interest in acquiring and administering grants.
Responsibilities: This tenure-track position carries responsibilities in the areas of teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in sport psychology (and related areas) including writing proficiency courses, scholarship leading to presentations and publications and service including advising graduate students and serving on master’s committees, engaging in faculty governance and serving on department/university committees. Additional responsibilities include working cooperatively with faculty and contributing to the goals of the department/university. Teaching assignments are based upon qualifications of the individual and the needs of the department.

Overview:

Job Summary/Function:
The Department of Human Movement Sciences (Kinesiology) invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the ranks of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, effective August 2012. The Department is seeking outstanding candidates whose research utilizes the social sciences to study health and/or performance in the area(s) of physical activity and/or sport. We anticipate using at least one position to complement the existing psychology focus in the department. Physical Activity Promotion Associate Professor
The College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences (CPASS), in conjunction with the emerging School of Public Health (SPH) at West Virginia University is seeking applicants for a newly created Associate Professor position in the area of Physical Activity Promotion to begin August 15, 2012. This position will have a nine-month appointment, with summer school teaching available. The faculty member hired in this position will have a joint appointment in the CPASS, Department of Sport Sciences and the emerging SPH. We are seeking candidates with a research focus related to the influence of physical activity on wellness across the lifespan. We are especially interested in candidates who have a record of conducting federally funded research that can be translated to improve the health and wellness of individuals across the lifespan, using methods that will compliment those already in use by faculty across the institution.
Professional Qualifications: Qualifications include an earned doctorate in Public Health, Kinesiology or other closely related field, with the experiences necessary to warrant appointment at the rank of Associate Professor at West Virginia University. Applicants must also possess teaching experience, a scholarly record with publications in high quality peer-reviewed journals, a well-established record of securing federally funded research grants as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator, and ability to advise students and teach courses in physical activity promotion (undergraduate) and physical activity epidemiology (graduate)(one class per semester). The successful candidate will also be required to have excellent written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to mentor graduate students and fellow faculty.
In addition to the expectation of developing and maintaining a federally funded research program, the successful candidate will also be expected to be involved in interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate education in the areas of physical activity promotion and physical activity epidemiology. The successful candidate will also be asked to have an active role in mentoring and coordinating interdisciplinary research activities in this area across the two units.Â

THE DEPARTMENT: The department has over 600 majors and offers both a bachelors and a master’s degree. The current tenure track faculty are primarily female and the expertise of the faculty spans from the humanities, to the psychological/behavioral sciences to the life sciences. Qualifications and Performance Requirements For APEX Performance Peak Performance Program (Center) Director
Position Description:
APEX Performance is seeking a full time Program Director for its advanced training program for a Peak Performance Center in San Antonio, TX. Â This is a ground floor opportunity for the right person. Applicants must have exceptional interpersonal, presentation, teaching and coaching skills.
Duties:
- Provides individual & group training/coaching in peak performance mental skills for
- Military and government professionals of all ranks
- Individual athletes, sports teams, business clients, etc
- Learns the general strategies, operations, and culture of APEX clients. Applies this knowledge to the work with clients to make the training an integrated, professional development experience for participants
- With time and experience, the trainer must have the ability to expand his/her role to:
- Assume the role of Lead Program Director for specified Training center
- Train new trainers who will provide performance training and coaching when and if necessary
- Lead and manage other trainers when and if necessary
- Assist in the development of new content for specific applications using the APEX peak performance mental skills and accompanying protocols
- Other responsibilities:
- Assists in the creation and implementation of marketing/communication strategies to drive awareness and effective utilization of the peak performance program to existing and new clients
- Establishes and reports to APEX management on the effectiveness and progress of training; designs data gathering methods to achieve metrics for evaluating program effectiveness; gathers participant evaluation/feedback
- Researches trends and best practices in performance psychology and applies learning to enhance the services of APEX
- Makes recommendations for improvements to processes, facilities, scheduling and other logistical elements of all aspects of APEX
- Performs routine operational duties—maintains records/files; establishes and uses appropriate security measures to ensure confidentiality of client data and to safeguard equipment/technology
- Effectively manages expenditures
- Team player willing to assist in all areas of an entrepreneurial venture but also be able to work autonomously
Education
Ph.D. or Masters Degree in one of the following is highly desirable: sport or performance psychology, applied clinical behavioral psychology, cognitive psychology, social psychology, leadership, management, organizational behavior. In recent times, interdisciplinary approaches and degrees in the above have been available and are acceptable. Willingness to become AASP certified.
Knowledge Base and Expertise
- Principles and concepts of peak performance
- Sport or performance psychology: concepts and intervention techniques and tools
- Design and implementation of instruction and training
- Human performance assessment, measurement and evaluation
- Organizational behavior
- Principles and concepts of leadership
- Principles of effective performance coaching
Experience
- Significant experience in working with adult clients in the area of peak performance skills development or performance enhancement education and training
- Significant teaching experience in and out of the classroom
- Performance and /or executive coaching
- Work with intact teams in team development – sport, military, or business
- Organizational leadership experiences
- Utilization of technology in the areas of biofeedback and applied psychophysiology
- Familiarity with audio/visual technology
- Work with clients in military organizations and government agencies
