Kristina Moore, Student Representative

Jack J. LeyskKristina (Kristy) Moore graduated Cum Laude from Gettysburg College in 2001 with a B.S. in Human Social and Psychological Development and a minor in Education. At Gettysburg, Kristy was an All-American field hockey player, earning Centennial Conference Player of the Year (2001). After spending a few years teaching and coaching, Kristy enrolled in graduate school at the University of New Hampshire. In 2006, she completed a M.S. in Kinesiology (Sport Studies) under the guidance of Dr. Heather Barber. Her research explored the relationship between perceived parental influences on adolescent athletes’ goal orientations and reporting of dispositional self-handicapping. During her time at UNH, Kristy also worked with Dr. Karen Collins on qualitative analyses of pre-service coaches’ philosophy statements.

Currently, Kristy is a doctoral student in Social Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity at the University of Northern Colorado. With the guidance of her advisor, Dr. Megan Babkes Stellino, Kristy is conducting research on the predictability of self-determination and needs satisfaction on dispositional and situational self-handicapping in Division I athletes. She is also assisting Dr. Babkes Stellino with two projects relating to the perceived impact parents have on various psychosocial outcomes in adolescent athletes. Kristy is earning a doctoral minor in Educational Psychology (Human Development) and has assisted developmental psychologist, Dr. Paul Klaczynski, with research on obesity stigma in young children. Kristy is a teaching assistant in the Sport and Exercise Science department and teaches undergraduate courses in motor behavior, stress management, and various fitness-related classes. Kristy’s applied experience includes work as a fitness assessment coordinator in a city recreation center where she conducted fitness assessments, provided exercise psychology consultation to individual exercisers, and taught seminars on exercise motivation and adherence, goal-setting, mental skills for golf, and body image. Currently, Kristy is in her second year as the sport psychology consultant for one of the University of Northern Colorado’s athletic teams. She is completing the necessary criteria for certification as an AASP Certified Consultant.

Kristy has been a member of AASP since 2004 and attended her first conference in Vancouver; she has subsequently presented research at three AASP conferences. Since 2007, Kristy served as one of the Southwest regional representatives. She has been involved with many student initiatives including the Graduate Assistant Proposal, Leadership College, PPUMP and Student Website Development Committee. Kristy is one of the founders of the New Member Welcome Committee, which became the Hospitality Committee.
