Jonathan Metzler, President-Elect

Jonanthan Metzler, PhD, CC-AASPJonathan N. Metzler, Ph.D., provides a unique balance of science and practice in performance psychology as Senior Researcher of Performance Psychology in support of the United States Army’s Comprehensive Soldier Fitness – Performance & Resilience Enhancement Program (CSF-PREP). Jon provides oversight of research projects designed to investigate the effectiveness of performance psychology with Soldiers, development of interventions to enhance Soldier performance, and mentorship of Performance Enhancement Specialists to ensure quality service delivery.

Before CSF-PREP, Jon was Assistant Professor of Sport Psychology at Georgia Southern University where he served as Co-Coordinator of the Sport Psychology graduate program, Chair of the IRB, and member of the university Graduate Committee.

Jon has been very active in AASP and advancing performance psychology, attending every conference since 1998, delivering 24 presentations, and serving on several AASP committees including Student Development, Web Content, Website Redesign, Accreditation, Organizational Outreach, and Graduate Training. He co-authored a graduate level book entitled Training Professionals in the Practice of Sport Psychology and currently serves as reviewer for JASP and AASP conference submissions.

As a CC-AASP and member of the USOC Sport Psychology Registry, Jon has provided performance psychology consultation to teams and athletes of 18 different sports of various competitive levels including intercollegiate, Olympic, Paralympic, and professional.

Jon earned BAs in Psychology, Physical Education, and Secondary Education from Concordia University-Portland, a MA in Exercise and Sport Science specializing in Sport Psychology from the UNC-Chapel Hill, and a PhD in Kinesiology specializing in Psychology of Movement and Sport from the Pennsylvania State University.
