Brent Walker, Past-President

Dr. Brent Walker is the Associate Athletics Director for Championship Performance at Columbia University where he is charge of developing and providing mental training services for the 31 varsity sports teams and nearly 800 Columbia University student-athletes. Prior to his role at Columbia, Brent was the Graduate Coordinator/Assistant Chair in the Kinesiology and Sports Studies Department at Eastern Illinois University. He also provides mental training services for athletes ranging from youth to the professional ranks. From 2000-2010 Brent provided sport psychology workshops at national licensing clinics for the Coaching Education Division of the U.S. Soccer Federation and served as the mental training consultant for the U.S. Soccer Paralympic soccer team prior to the Beijing Paralympic Games. He received his doctoral degree in kinesiology (2002) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, his master's degree in exercise science (1997) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and his bachelor's degree (1994) in psychology from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, where he was a two-sport athlete, playing baseball and basketball. Through the years, he has served as a conference abstract reviewer and presented both his research and performance enhancement work at multiple AASP conferences. Brent became a member and attended his initial AASP conference during the first year of his master's program in 1994. Since 2011, Brent has served on the executive board as the Scientific Program Division Head and has played an integral role in bringing several invited high-profile performers to the annual AASP conference.
