Brent Walker, Scientific Program Division Head
Dr. Brent Walker is an Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Sports Studies at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois. Dr. Walker has been at EIU since 2005 where he serves as the Graduate Coordinator/Assistant Chair and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses (e.g., Psychological Foundations of Coaching, Social Psychology and Physical Activity, and Exercise Psychology). He received his doctoral degree in kinesiology (2002) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, his master's degree in exercise science (1997) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and his bachelor's degree (1994) in psychology from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, where he was a two-sport athlete.
Walker also provides mental training services for athletes ranging from youth to the professional ranks and has presented over 50 invited mental training seminars nationwide. From 2000-2010 Walker provided sport psychology workshops at national licensing clinics for the Coaching Education Division of the U.S. Soccer Federation and served as the mental training consultant for the U.S. Soccer Paralympic soccer team prior to the Beijing Paralympic Games.
Walker became a member and attended his initial AASP conference during the first year of his master's program in 1994. Through the years, he has served as a conference abstract reviewer and presented both his research and performance enhancement work at multiple AASP conferences.
