Gloria Solomon - Division Head, Publications/Information

Dr. Gloria B. Solomon is an Associate Professor of Kinesiology at Texas Christian University where she teaches undergraduate and graduate level courses in sport and exercise psychology and conducts research focused on expectancy effects in competitive sport with the intent to facilitate athlete development. Dr. Solomon earned her Bachelor of Science (1985) and Master of Science (1987) degrees in sport psychology at the University of Oregon and her doctorate degree from the University of California at Berkeley (1993) in both sport psychology and sociology. An Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) certified sport psychology consultant and Fellow, Dr. Solomon provides sport psychology services and oversees an internship program whereby students are afforded the opportunity to work with coaches and athletes. In addition, Dr. Solomon is the co-owner of a business called MentaPhysical Performance Consulting where she provides mental training services for athletes in the sports of golf, tennis, softball, baseball, and basketball. In her 2004 co-authored book, Focused for Fastpitch, Dr. Solomon offers drills for competitive softball players to improve their mental game. Gloria has been an active member of AASP since 1988. In her past roles she has served as Chair of the Continuing Education Committee and Chair of the Performance Psychology Committee. Currently, Dr. Solomon serves on the Executive Board as the Publications and Information Division Head. In addition, she is a board member of the Journal of Applied Sport Psychology, The Sport Psychologist, and the International Journal of Sport Science and Coaching.  As a recent guest scholar at the Deutsche Sporthochschule Köln (German Sport University, Cologne), Dr. Solomon led a research team conducting a cross-cultural study on coaches’ assessment of athlete ability. In her leisure time, Dr. Solomon enjoys cycling, kayaking, running, playing tennis and golf, reading historical tomes, watching Survivor, and supporting TCU athletics and the professional sport teams in her home state of Arizona.
